Avela current supports two methods for parents to sign up for a new account: using their phone number or their email address. Parents can navigate to the sign up page for your organization by going to apply.avela.org/{your-organization-name}.
Signing up with phone number
Parents can sign up with their phone number by entering in their phone number into the provided input field.
When a valid phone number is entered, a parent will receive a text message. The text message can take a few minutes to be sent. This text message will change depending on the state of the parent account:
- If the parent already has an account, they will receive a text message to login
- If the parent does not have an account, they will receive a text message to sign up for a new account
Signing up with email address
Parents can sign up using an email address by entering in a valid email address and a password on the sign up with email page.
The parent must enter in a valid password. The rules for a valid password are below:
- The password must be at least 8 characters in length
- The password must contain at least 3 of the 4 types of characters:
- Lower case letter (a-z)
- Upper case letters (A-Z)
- Numbers (i.e. 0-9)
- Special characters (e.g. ~@#$%^&*)
If the entered email is already attached to an account or the email is not valid, an error will appear:
If the entered email and password is valid, a confirmation email will be sent to the entered address. This confirmation email must be opened and the button within it clicked to finish creating the account.
When the confirmation button in the email is clicked, the parent will be redirected to finish signing up for their account.
