You can embed videos, like virtual tours or welcome messages, directly in a school's Explore profile. Families can watch the videos inline, without leaving Explore.
Supported videos
| Source | Example link |
|---|---|
| YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID |
| YouTube short link | https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID |
| YouTube Shorts | https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID |
| Vimeo | https://vimeo.com/76979871 |
- Videos must be public or unlisted. Private videos won't play.
- For Vimeo, use the plain link that ends in the video number. Links that include a channel or showcase name, like vimeo.com/channels/name/76979871, won't play.
- Any other link shows as a regular clickable hyperlink rather than as an embedded video.
How to add inline videos
- Add a column to your data sheet for the video, for example School Tour Video. Use one column per type of video.
- Paste one video link per cell. Put only the link in the cell, with no other text.
- Leave the cell blank for schools without a video. The video section won't show on those profiles.
-
Tell your Avela representative or help@avela.org:
- The column name
- Which profile tab the video should appear in
- The label families should see, like Virtual tour
Avela sets up the video. After that, you can add or change video links in your data sheet any time.
How videos appear
- Inline video works in any Profile tab. Video links in the School Profile Header section above the tab structure will display as links, not inline videos. See [Designing School Profiles].
- The player fills the width of the profile tab and shows the video's normal controls.
- Videos don't play automatically. Families need to click play.
- You can have more than one video column. Each video shows as its own player, stacked in the order you choose.
- If a tab contains only a video and a school has no video link, that tab doesn't appear for that school.
Tips
- Keep videos short. A 1–3 minute tour is easier to watch on a phone.
- Use videos that work without sound, or add captions, for families watching in public.
- Check that each video's privacy setting is public or unlisted before you add the link.
