Use the search bar at the top of Explore to find a specific school, schools that offer something you care about, or schools near a place. Type in the box and pick a suggestion from the list.
| 💡 Your district may call these "programs" or "providers" instead of "schools." The search works the same way. |
Find a school by name
- Type part of the school's name in the search bar.
- Under Schools, select the school you want.
The school's profile opens and the map moves to it.
You can type any word from the name, not just the first one. For example, type the campus name at the end of a long school name. Capitals, apostrophes and punctuation don't matter: childrens finds Children's. Small spelling mistakes near the start of a name are fine, "Rosevelt" still finds "Roosevelt."

Find schools that offer a program or feature
- Type what you're looking for, such as baseball, Spanish or transportation.
- Under Keywords, select a match. Each one shows how many schools offer it.
The list and map now show only schools with that keyword, and the keyword appears as a tag under the search bar.
To narrow further, search again and add another keyword. Explore shows only schools that have all of your keywords. For example, Baseball plus Spanish shows schools that offer both.
Find schools near an address
- Type an address or zip code. For a neighborhood or city, add a comma and your state, such as Roxbury, MA.
- Under Addresses, select the right place.
The map moves to that location and the list sorts by distance from it.
See every match
The list shows the top 3 suggestions in each section. To see all of them, select Show all … matching at the bottom of the Schools or Keywords section. You can also press Enter without choosing a suggestion.
Remove a search
Select the × on a tag to remove it, and you’ll see the results widen again. You can also press Backspace in an empty search bar to remove the most recent tag.
Troubleshooting
No suggestions appear
- Check your spelling. Explore forgives small spelling mistakes near the start of a school's name, but not in the first letter, and not in words later in the name.
- Type the words of a school's name in the order they appear in it.
- Try a shorter or more general word, such as art instead of art classes for teens.
- Keywords come from the programs and features schools list in their profiles. Long descriptions, like mission statements, aren't searched. If a word doesn't appear, try the Filters panel.
My address doesn't appear
- Type at least 3 characters.
- Add a street number, street type (St, Ave) or city. For example, 12 Main St instead of Main.
