Messages are the primary way of communicating with families in Avela. Depending on what information the Family member has provided, the kind of message they'll receive - email, or SMS.
There are two types of messages that are sent to families:
-
Automatic messages
- These messages are automatically fired when a trigger is met - but you can decide which ones to turn on or off, as well as what kind of content to include in each.
- They help convey important information to families about their stage in the process, without Staff worrying about messaging every step of the way. See more about editing automatic messages.
- Ad-hoc messages
- Follow up may still be necessary and there may be times when Staff still needs to manually reach out to a Family. There are multiple ways to do that in Avela.
How do I send an ad-hoc message?
Sending messages in Avela can be done individually, or in bulk - to multiple recipients at once.

How do I see sent messages?
Staff can see messages in two ways: The Message tab, on a specific form response; or on the Messages page, which shows all of the messages the organization has sent.

What's the status of my message?
When looking at sent messages, each of them has a status indicating the delivery of the message. Learn more about what each message status means.
